October 2025
Amanda Sims, Hospice Aide at Interim Hospice
When I called Ashley Vince to let her know that Amanda had been selected as the October Hospice Caregiver Award winner, she was so delighted and went on to tell me about how many families have loved having Amanda care for their loved ones. She then went about planning how to get her in the office to surprise her. However, they unexpectedly experienced some staffing issues and needed Amanda in the field at the time we were supposed to surprise her in front of her peers.
However, we were able to reschedule and still surprise her. In fact, as I was walking up the steps to the office, I walked behind a lovely woman who was humming and singing. I thought to myself, “This has to be Amanda.” And sure enough, it was. She was delighted and surprised that someone in her organization thought so much of her to nominate her for the award.
Here is what Ashley Vince had to say about Amanda:
Amanda goes above and beyond the call of duty in Hospice. She exemplifies what it means to be a Hospice caregiver and aide. She always purchases needed supplies for her patients out of pocket if she notices they need any personal care items, clothing, or bedding. She always puts the patients and caregivers first in her day-to-day activities and is always the first aide to volunteer for any programs or events in which hospice participates. She provided cricket T-shirts for our lemonade shake down a few months back for a nursing facility and did so out of the kindness of her heart. She truly shows what it means to be a Hospice aide and always wants to be with the families during times of loss. She is usually the first aide to respond regardless of whether the patient is her normal everyday patient or not, for these difficult and heartfelt visits during loss of loved ones. I have truly learned the compassion and empathy she has for what she does daily. We could not ask for a better caregiver on our team!
Congratulations, Amanda. You exemplify what it means to be a hospice caregiver.
